Vivah Panchami Songs
विवाह पंचमी
The anniversary of the marriage of Sita and Ram. For Mithila this is not a story about somewhere else — Sita is Mithila’s daughter, and this is her wedding day.

Vivah Panchami in Mithila
- Sita — Janaki, Maithili, Vaidehi — is named after this land. Two of her three most common names simply mean "of Mithila".
- The structure of a traditional Maithil vivah, and its songs, are traced by families directly to this wedding.
- For Mithila the emotional centre of the Ramayana is not conquest but a wedding and a departure — which is why the vidai songs are the ones that survive best.
- Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi and the temples of Darbhanga and Madhubani see the largest observances in the Indian Mithila belt.
