Madhushravani in Mithila
- Madhushravani is observed in the Maithili-speaking region and essentially nowhere else — no other Indian tradition has quite this observance.
- It is one of the few festivals whose entire content — stories, songs, ritual sequence — is held and transmitted by women.
- The Naag and Vishahara stories connect it to Mithila’s serpent-worship tradition and to the Bihula-Vishahari epic of the wider Anga-Mithila belt.
- The songs are Maithili and specific to the fortnight; they are not sung at any other time of year.
